The Edgework Syllabus

The Ultimate Edgework Learning Experience.

The Edgework Syllabus is a structured, progressive system designed to teach edgework step by step, move by move, so you don’t just copy shapes, you understand and master the technique.

Beginning with essential foundations, you’ll learn how to access and control every part of the shoe, including the microedges that give edgework its precision and power. You’ll develop a clear understanding of movement initiation, weight transfers, and how edgework truly functions within heels technique.

Each level of the syllabus is carefully built, with individual tutorials breaking down specific edgework movements, followed by sequences that allow you to explore linking, musicality, and performance. This ensures your edgework is not only technically sound, but fluid, precise, and expressive.

To support your training, the syllabus also includes purpose-built warm-ups, targeted conditioning, and structured cool-downs, designed specifically for the demands of edgework. This allows you to build strength, control, and resilience alongside your technical development - supporting both performance quality and longevity in heels.

Whether you’re new to edgework or refining advanced skills, The Edgework Syllabus provides a clear, intelligent pathway to confident, controlled, and purposeful edgework in heels.

Filmed in HD with external audio for clear, high-quality instruction. Each class is shot from multiple angles, including close-ups of the foot and shoe, so you can clearly see the detail of the work. On-screen visual cues indicate left and right, making the material easy to follow and ideal for online learning.

Each level is outlined below with descriptions and prerequisites.

We recommend beginning with Finding the Edge (Level 1) to ensure a strong, complete foundation.

Which Level to Choose?

For dancers new to edgework or those wanting to refine their foundations.

This level focuses on building strong, beautiful edgework by developing the essential skills that underpin the technique. You’ll learn which part of the shoe to use and when, how to access and control those edges, and how working on the edge shifts your centre of gravity and weight placement.

You’ll then apply these skills to key foundational movements - including walks on the edge, ankle articulations, box breaks, and spins - before linking them together into fluid, intentional sequences.

By the end of this level, you’ll have a clear understanding of how edgework functions, feel confident accessing the edges of your heels, and be able to execute and link foundational edgework movements with control, clarity, and intention.

Prerequisites:

Comfortable dancing in heels (Pleasers, Hella Heels or similar)

Confident with basic pole movement and transitions

No prior edgework experience required

You’re ready for this level if you:

Can shift weight cleanly from foot to foot in heels

Can perform basic spins and pirouettes in heels.

Are curious about how you can use the edges of your heels

Want to build clarity and confidence in your edgework foundations
